Kiss Monster review

Kiss Monster review.
Well I've lived with it for a while, digested it and I think I prefer it to 'beef curtains'.

Overall I'm amazed at how consistent it all is. I never thought we'd get another album TBH - so this is a bonus to the Kiss catalogue as we know it.

Hell or hallelujah - We've all lived with for a while. The best track on the album, no wonder it was the single. Nice riffage, Stanley is giving it his all, but live it disappointed at the forum. Still time to let it develop road legs..9/10

Wall of sound - although stealing a title from Slade, this rocks. Has an 80's feel. Gene's voice sounds great."And the battle never ends and the soldiers never die" The military references will go down well with the troops- is this the idea? Riff sounds like something Bruce would have come up with on revenge. I like...7/10

Freak - is my favourite Paul song on here, it seems like he's getting something off his chest from his youth...funny how asshole comments from the past still niggle. I like how Paul is singing with conviction here. 9/10

Back to the stone age- presumably this is the only place where gene's hair is fashionable and he doesn't get pointed at. But ironically where his vast personal fortune whould be useless..The riff is a bit rock and roll cliche and the lyrics are gumby...but a fun tune..Uncle Gene sounding like an old geezer down the pub telling how it was all better in his day.6/10

Shout mercy - I like gene's bouncy bass line on this.Another kiss song about getting the 'party started'? The whoo-whoo's sound like the stones..I thought the bridge was going to go somewhere but it didn't. 7/10

Long way down- great start, very 'Beatle-esque',  plenty of Stanley sass...Paul sounds most like himself here I feel. The descending bass line reminds me of Lennon..Sounds like a revenge sounds with less anger and venom. 8/10

Eat your heart out - The harmony vocal start is revenge-esque - backbone slippage is probably Gene thinking about his chiropractor's appointment. This is one of the songs that doesn't really go anywhere. Rocks like a kiddie's pedalo that grandad could take a ride on too. 6/10

The devil is me - definitely Gene's best song on here..His rampant ego is allowed full flight, here but tongue firmly in cheek. Nice solo from Thomas. 9/10

Outta this world.- "I was born to the human race"- Not so fast mate, let's see some evidence first... How much does he sound like Gene in his vocal delivery? marks of of 10 for creativity regarding Rocket ship transportation er..zero..As a song? Well constricted..ignoring lack of originality in theme..7/10

All for the love of rock and Roll- As others have said this sounds most like a kiss song of all of them?! Eric delivers a solid vocal, the song has a good upbeat feel and the lyric has more of a narative feel than the rest.No surprises but no disappointments either. 7/10

Take me down below - Is this a nautical theme to tie in with the cruises? Submarine?? really gene, really??!!Gene's double entendres are a bit predictable but still are delivered with the demon's wry smile. Nice to hear the classic Gene/Paul alternate verses and harmonies on this..8/10 Cheesy, dumb but strangly brilliant!- (hey I'm a fuckin' Kiss fan)

Last chance starts with gene's thumpy, distorted classic bass sounds that make me think of plaster caster. The riff isn't as good as that unfortunately. Going too feverishly into the chorus makes me think they had a catchy chorus but not enough verses..All chorus meat but no Verse vegetables.-Disappointing 6/10- All this talk of last chances makes me depressed.Tommy's solo sounds like Ace on this.

Some tracks sound pretty Generic, they could have the bloke from 'Thunder' singing on 'em..
Stanley's voice will never be what it once was..but 10 for effort- Hats off to the Starchild!
Lyrics are pure cheese in places, with an extra slice of grilled cheese on gene's
Gene's grungy, punchy bass lines are excellent..Overall a cohesive and impressively muscular performance from the whole band.
For me this has to pass the garage painting test. can it stand repeated playing while my compressor hisses on and off? Yes...It has balls, heart and feel. Overall 7 1/2 out of 10
